Construction of Gender Roles

The majority of media sources have helped to create gender roles for men and women. If you think about it, women are usually the spouse cleaning, cooking, tending to the family, and handling household duties. On the other hand, men are the dominate bread winners of the family.

This video is clipping from various forms of media which demonstrates how gender roles have been constructed and why they most likely will continue.

  1. yes Natalie, i agree with you. media has helped to create the belief that women are supposed to go back kitchen. but i believe that some works and jobs should be done and held by specific gender. how a man can be better in the kitchen than woman :)). i think it is not insulting!! it is giving value..

  2. Wow, no kidding. I have to agree too about the gender roles portrayed in media. Even though women have come a long way in equality, we're still looked at as home-makers. It's not a bad thing, but we do a lot more than just that...usually we do that and more. We don't see the media portraying that very often.
